I’ve been on Threads for 37 minutes for the first time since it launched. I think I understand its place in the ecosystem. Between X, Threads, and Mastodon, it’s all just horned poodles and Problematic Kirk.— toot

Finally got around to building the iOS version of my POSSE app.
- Mastodon and Bluesky text posting
- Add a title, publishes to Hugo, links from Mastodon and Bluesky
- +300 chars and no title: Complete post to Mastodon + first 300 to Bluesky with a link to Mastodon
- Images go to Pixelfed and boosted on Mastodon
Saves drafts, toggle-able channels, saves photo markup to add inline in blog posts.
The backing worker also quietly adds a Standard Site post to my AT proto PDS as the system of record for all of it and commits to a repo.
Doing this as a PWA was just okay. Much better as a native app with OTA install via a private deploy site (so no App Store or TestFlight rigmarole).
I didn’t know about ad-hoc installs until today, so more of my PWAs are going to be native apps as I get to them.— toot

I guess they really only need to knock off one, and they’ve figured out which one it is. It was never gonna end with just passing charter reform.— toot

Sleep’s “Hempispheres” (sic) is getting a lot of hate: No Matt Pike, new drummer. I put it on for the ride back up from Eugene today and really enjoyed it. Perfect soundtrack for a rainy day on the highway.
The Subaru has a “keep your distance” cruise control setting, and the rain was keeping people from being too aggressive with the gap-filling, so I had a nice bubble all around me to zone out in.
I dunno. Try it out:

It was really just life hacks all alongI’ve made a bunch of apps and tools in the past two years and this NYT article encouraged me to ask “where are they now?"

I’m down in Eugene to help Ben with his car. We ordered Indian, watched a David Cronenberg movie, and then went out for drinks. On the way home, we were standing at a corner waiting for a light when a woman in workout clothes standing maybe ten feet away and a little behind us said, “are you alright?”
We turned and looked at her, I said “sorry?” and she said again, “are you alright? Are you safe?”
The first time she asked the wheels had already started turning, so Ben and I realized about the same time that she was talking to him.
I laughed a little, and he said “this is my dad.”
She leered, and her tone shifted from “concerned bystander” to salacious.
“Uh huh. Is he your dad, or is he your ‘dad’?”
Ben said, “no, he’s my actual dad. Jesus!” as I said “I’m his real dad. Get the fuck out of here, dipshit.”
She turned away from us and yelled over her shoulder, “sor-REE!”
Ben tells me that part of his visible queerness involves a lot of people projecting a lot of things onto him, whether it takes the form of a kind of false and patronizing familiarity, or a darker suggestion of their own sexual neuroses. And now the experience we shared together, where a putatively “concerned” person flipped from “attempted intervention” to leering asshole when her little rescue drama script didn’t go off quite right.— toot

The new PEN is to the OM-3 as the OM-5 is to the OM-1. $999 for weather sealing and frankly superior in-body image control: Dagger at the heart of the X-E5.— toot
